I did enjoy this movie, but I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. If you like movies that are violent and a bit graphic, you'll enjoy this movie. I usually love Bruce Willis, but he just didn't seem to have his heart fully into this movie. His emotional portrayal was just off to me. Still, it wasn't a terrible movie, so if this is your style, it fits in well with movies like The Equalizer.
Death Wish is a remake of the 1974 movie of the same name, but with Charles Bronson. It tells the story of a passive man that loses everything and decides to take back some peace of mind by giving street justice to some criminals. At first, he strikes randomly against those that cross his path. Soon, he tracks down the people that attacked his family and tries to punish them as well. The movie is violent and sometimes quite graphic. The first act of the movie is all about falling in love with his perfect family. It just makes his loss that much more heart-wrenching.
As I said, I did have some issues with Willis. Some takes just didn't feel genuine to me. And the portrayal of the police bothered me. They weren't shown to have their hands tied or anything, but more like they were incompetent. Still, it's tough not to fall in love with his family and really feel for him when they were attacked. He doesn't just seek justice, though... he obviously wants vengeance and gets a real taste for the violence. I think that's a very human portrayal of how someone might react. He must have felt a great amount of power when he killed his first evildoers and got away with it. I probably preferred the Bronson version (or the Jodie Foster version, for that matter). I didn't dislike the movie, but I could have liked it much more.
